What is IP Enclosure Ratings and standard in Electrical Motor

*. IP ratings defined as Ingress protection or international protection ratings
       ( BS EN 60529 : 1992)

*. This standard used to define level of sealing        effectiveness  of electrical enclosure against
    dust, dirt, moisture, water etc

* What is two digit in IP ratings.

It is consist of letter IP followed by two digit. Higher the number better the protection if number is replaced by X it means it is not rated for that specification

* IP65   =  First Digit – Solids

The first  digit of IP indicates the level of protection that the  enclosure  provides  against the  ingress of solid foreign objects, from tools or fingers that could be  hazardous if they came into  contact with electrical conductors or moving  parts, to airborne dirt and dust that could damage circuitry.

* IP65 =  Second Digit - Liquids

The second digit defines the protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against various forms of moisture (drips, sprays, submersion etc).

NOTE -  IP 00  it means not protected from                      solid and liquid
              IP 01 mean Not protected from solid                  But protected from condensation

Mostly used IP Enclosure class in Electrical Motor are :-

1. IP - 55
     Protection from limited solid dust ingress         and protected from low pressure steam jet.
     From any direction

2.IP - 56
      Protection of limited dust ingress and                protected from high pressure steam jet in          any direction.

3. IP - 67
     Protected from total dust and protected           from total immersion
